The debut EP from Stranger in Bree. It showcases the unique blend of synth-pop and piano/effects-driven rock.
Stranger in Bree is an idea come to life. I (Benjamin Carroll) am currently the lone member of this "idea". My inspirations are drawn from many bands and artists of past and present. I've always liked what I feel is sincere music, music that is directly connected to the soul of those who make it. If the people singing and playing it don't care about it, I probably won't either.
My love for music started with an obsession for playing the drums (or the car dashboard, pots and pans or anything else I could hit) at a very young age. In my late teens I began to learn piano and spent most of my time trying to learn songs. As I grew tired of that I began to write my own ideas. Due to limited resources and limited ability, I started to realize that creativity was the answer to progressing. I started writing songs, some of which were decent and some that will never see the light of day. I was drawn to bands/artists who used different tones and soundscapes from everyone else. I realized what a beautiful thing a melody could be. I started to see how music was changing my life.
I'm not a fan of being put in a box. I don't like doing things unless I give it my best effort. I want Stranger in Bree to reflect that. Some ask why I go by a band name when it's just me that writes and plays everything. I do it first of all because it feels like the right thing to me, and because I don't know exactly what the future holds for Stranger in Bree. It may be that one day this will be a band of multiple members. It may be that it stays this way. The important thing is that the music takes you somewhere.
